Frank H. Jellinek, Jr., 60, of Rye Beach, N. H., and Sun Valley, Idaho, died in a tragic accident on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, when the private jet on which he was a passenger, crashed ruing landing at McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, Calif.

Frank was the beloved husband and partner for 38 years of Judith A. Jellinek and the loving father of their two grown children – daughter, Lauren and her husband, Sam Flower; and son, Peter Max Jellinek, and his wife, Suzie. Frank was the proud grandfather of Jacob Flower, and Oliver Jellinek; devoted identical twin brother of John Jellinek and his wife, Janet; and loyal son of Frank H. Jellinek Sr. he was also a fun loving and inspirational uncle to 13 nieces and nephews. His mother, Irene Rosenberg Jellinek, and sister, Patricia Jellinek Hallowell, predeceased him.

Although Frank’s death was and will remain a very sad tragedy, how he lived life s what is truly remarkable. To Frank everything was possible. He embraced life with boundless enthusiasm, inspiration and compassion.

Born in Buffalo, N. Y., on May 30, 1945, to Irene and Frank H. Jellinek Sr., Frank wasted little time before learning and becoming part of the family business. By age 15, he was working in the industry in which he would build his career. The company was Erie Scientific, founded by Frank’s maternal grandfather, Max Rosenberg. While learning the business from the inside, Frank also attended college at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He attended the University of Wisconsin and received an MBS from Canisius College in Buffalo, N. Y.

Frank enjoyed long and successful career in the biosciences and lab-equipment industries. His final professional position was chairman emeritus of Fisher scientific international, headquartered in Hampton, N. H. Throughout his career, he served as a mentor, advisor and steadfast friend, helping those along the way as he had been guided.

While Frank was a student at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, he met the woman of his dreams, Judith Ausman of Merrill, Wis. In 1968 they were marriage in Buffalo, N. Y., and from that point on were rarely apart. Judy and Frank raised two beautiful children, Peter Max and Lauren. Judy worked by Frank’s side in their family business and played by his side as they pursued their many shared interests. One of their greatest loves was sailing together along the beautiful coasts of New England and Puget Sound. They skied tighter in Sun Valley. Judy even donned a racing suit and joined the pit crew when Frank was behind the wheel of his classic racecars.

Frank’s love for life led him on many varied and adventurous journeys. He was a talented musician who played in banjo and guitar, with Judy often singing and playing the piano. He raced cars, biked the winding roads by Rye, N. H., and Sun Valley, Idaho, all while managing numerous successful businesses. Whether at work or at play, he maintained a can-do-down-to-earth, optimistic outlook and was so often overheard repeating one of his favorite saying, “it is what it is.”

Frank and Judy generously supported non-profits in the areas of healthcare, education and the artist in their loyal communities and globally. At the family’s request, private memorial services will be held in Sun Valley and Rye Beach. A memorial fund has also been established in Frank’s honor supporting education and participation in the sports Frank loved the most: sailing, car racing, skiing and biking. A special focus will be given to the needs of mentally and physically challenged children and adults.
