Joseph W. Harkner, 58, Merrill, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

Born in Merrill on Sept. 25, 1947, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph and June Jackson Harkner Sr. He married Linda Kleinschmidt on Oct. 12, 1968. They had one son, Joseph Harkner, Jr.

Joe graduated from Merrill High School in 1965. He was employed with the Merrill Area Public Schools as a custodian at Midway in Gleason. He served in the National Guard during the Vietnam War. Joe was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Irma. He enjoyed playing pool, hunting, fishing, camping, and playing the accordion. Joe and Judy belonged to the Lily Sno-Birds Snowmobile Club in Lily.

Survivors include his special friend Judy Perrot, Merrill; son Joe (Angie) Harkner, Jr.; Omro; and grandchildren Cassie and Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 16, 1:30 p.m. at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Hans. J. Heisinger will officiate. Burial will be in Chat Cemetery, Town of Birch.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 4-8 p.m. and again from 12:30 p.m. Thursday, all at the funeral home.
