Vincent E. “Vince” Schaefer, 86, of 1406 E. Third St., Merrill, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill. Vince was born June 12, 1919, in the town of Schley, son of the late Otto and Minnie Laak Schaefer. He married Jeanette Meyer on June 6, 1941, in Merrill. She preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 2001.

Vince retired in 1980 from Wienbrenner Shoe Company in Merrill, where was a foreman in the Lasting Department and the Treating/Packing Department. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill, where he was involved in the Finance Committee. Vince enjoyed fishing and bird hunting.

Survivors include his brother Lenhardt, Wausau; brother-in-law Elmer (Marcie Hopp) Heinichen, Merrill; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister Sophie Heinichen, sister-in-law Joyce Schulz-Schaefer; brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Geneva Olson; and nephew and nieces Roger and Joyce Olson; Marie Olson and Lori Clark.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 11, at the Tyalor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Alden J. Beversdorf officiated. Entombment was in Merrill Memorial Park Mausoleum.
