James A. Johnas, 40, of Merrill, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Hospice House in Wausau.

Born Aug. 11, 1965, in Port Washington, Jim was the son of James Johnas and Leona Fainter. He married Julie Ullman on May 19, 1984. She survives.

Jim was a truck driver for 18 years and was an owner/operator for the past four years. He was a logger in his younger years. Jim built the family home on George’s Rd. where they have resided since 1987. He enjoyed building construction, wood working, driving truck, operating heave equipment, boating, motorcycling, snowmobiling and spending time with his family. Jim also enjoyed being outdoors, deer hunting and traveling out west. He will be sadly missed by his family.

Survivors include his wife Julie, Merrill; daughter Jackie Johnas and son, Jason, both of Merrill; his father James R. Johnas, West Allis; his mother Leona Fainter, Merrill; and his faithful companion, Lucky Dog.

He is also survived by his grandparents Violet Johnas and Otto and Ann Becker, all of Medford; sisters Brenda Johnas, Merrill; and Teri (Christ Schopperr) Johnas; Ankeny, Iowa; sister-in-law Jill (Bob) Windorski, Rothschild; mother-in-law Lois Ullman, Merrill; and nieces and nephews Breigha, Kristine, Kacey, Tristin, Darien, Alesha, Paulette, Miranda, Jenna and Ross. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Art Johnas; step-father Paul Fainter; and his father-in-law Fred Ullman.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 11, at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Ted Gulhagen officiated. A Jehovah’s Witness service was held Friday evening, March 10, with Steven Thorsen officiating.
