LuEllen Ritter, 88, of 2100 E. Sixth St., Merrill, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.

LuEllen was born Jan. 17, 1918, in the town of Berlin, daughter of the late William and Anna Scharbius Utech. She married Norman Ritter on June 1, 1941, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, town of Berlin (Naugart). They enjoyed 50 years together. Norman preceded his wife in death on Nov. 15, 1991.

LuEllen was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. She was the last remaining charter member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Trinity Ladies Aid and the Ladies Aid Card Club. The Card Club’s mission was raising funds and donating needed items to Trinity Lutheran School. LuEllen loved to sew, making much of her own clothing as well as sewing for her grandchildren. LuEllen and Norman loved to dance and travel together. Bowling was also a favorite hobby.

LuEllen is survived by her daughter Patricia (Daniel) Hughes, Oshkosh; sons William (Sarah), Merrill; Richard (Diana), Delafield; and Peter (Dian), Merrill, currently teaching in Seoul, South Korea; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Ruth Utech, Oshkosh; and Adeline Utech, Wausau; Lila Mae Ritter (Norman) Pankow, and family, Merrill; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sister Mildred Zamzow; and brothers Raymond, Lester, Herbert, Arley and Alvin Utech.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. David Klemm will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Berlin. Visitation will be tonight, Wednesday, 4-7 p.m. at the Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and again Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. at the church.
