Florence L. Stuemke, 88, of 711 E. First St., Merrill, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

Florence was born July 8, 1917, in Merrill, daughter of the late Charles and Hattie Kanitz Thanholdt. Florence met George Stuemke, who was originally from the Kenosha area, while he was working in the Merrill area with the Civilian Conservation Corps. Florence and George were married on July 4, 1936. George preceded her in death o July 20, 1988.

Florence was a faithful member of the Merrill Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1970. She enjoyed working on word puzzled and needle crafts.

Florence is survived by her children Karen (Jerome) Rubom, Silber City, N. M.; Edward (Sandra), Grand Rapids, Mich.; Kathryn (Donald) Grons, Spring Grove, Ill.; Georgia (Dale) Klug, Merrill, and Roberta Stuemke, Oshkosh; grandchildren Valeria (Charlie Jones) St. Marie, James Rubom, Edward (Jennifer) Stuemke II, Robert (Michelle) Stuemke, Donald C. (Shelli) Grons, William (Kris) Grons, Andrew T. Radloff and Leah Radloff; step-grandchildren Jamie (Jon) LaSee and Eric Klug; great-grandchildren Ariel Stuemke, Paige Grons, Jordan Grons, Davis Grons, Nicholas Grons and Lydia Radloff; and step-great-grandchildren Kade LaSee and Kyler LaSee. She was preceded in death by infant sons George, James and Dennis and sons Alan in 1965 and Dana in 1973.

Funeral services were Friday, March 24, at the Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Mr. Michael Travis officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park.
