Merle Martha Winchell, 91, of Merrill, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

Merle was born July 23, 1914, in Stetsonville, daughter of John and Anna Brunner Riemer. She married Albert Winchell on Sept. 7, 1933. He died Sept. 5, 2003.

Merle and Albert farmed in the town of Mayville before moving to Dorchester for three years. They then moved to Medford and then to Merrill where she clerked at various stores. They lived at Pier Lake in Tripoli before moving back to Dorchester for 20 years, then living in Merrill the last three years. She enjoyed her winter in Yuma, Ariz., 2004-2005. Merle enjoyed making quilts, handiwork and was musically talented, being able to play seven different instruments. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Dorchester.

Merle is survived by her daughters Marion (Lavern) Yorde and Doris Schmidt, both of Merrill; 10 grandchildren; 32 grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one-great-great-grandchild and two step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert, son Albert, four brothers, two sisters, granddaughter Collette Rustic, and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 4, at Peace United Church of Christ, Dorchester. Burial will be in Dorchester. Burial will be in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. The Mauriana/Community Funeral Home, Dorchester, assisted the family.

Pallbearers were Dennis Yorde, Dan Yorder, Dale Yorde, Duane Yorde, Mike Schulz, and Bob Schmidt.
