Erwin Leverenz

Erwin Leverenz, age 78, of 11 W. Merrill Ave., Tomahawk, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Tomahawk.

He was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Milwaukee to the late Erwin J. and Marie Leverenz. He was married to the former Anna Marie Brehm on May 21, 1949, in Burlington, Wis.

Erv attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, receiving a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry, and a master's degree in adult education and landscape architecture. He was employed in the agricultural field through 1966. From 1966 until 1978, he was employed by the University of Wisconsin Extension system and Lincoln County. Erv received numerous awards as an outstanding agent, and was frequently recognized for service to his community.

In 1977 he purchased the Tomahawk Hotel, renovated it into apartments and businesses, and renamed it the Tomahawk House. Erv retired in 1992 but continued to stay active in community service and St. Mary Catholic Church.

Erwin Leverenz is survived by his wife, Ann; four sons, Tom (Nola) of Flower Mound, Texas, Rick (Lori) of La Crosse, Gary (Cathy) of Brooklyn, Wis., and David of Prior Lake, Minn.; two daughters, Mary (Joe) Verner of Seattle, and Jane Leverenz of Rhinelander; and two sisters, Margaret Haizlip of Villa Viejo, Calif., and Carol (Richard) Froncek of Goodyear, Ariz. He is further survived by 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass for Erwin Leverenz will be at noon Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tomahawk, with the Rev. Edward Powell officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Krueger and Sons Funeral Home in Tomahawk and again from 10 until the hour of services Monday at the church.
