Roger M. Hilt, age 88, of W7471 Hwy. 86 in Tomahawk passed away Saturday night at Ministry Home Care, Dr. Kate Hospice in Woodruff.

Roger was born on August 9, 1916, in Tomahawk to the late Joseph and Ann Hilt. Roger courted young Margaret Tomisek at her aunt’s farm. They went on many adventures on his Harley-Davidson. The couple lived in a log cabin Roger had built for his new wife ? he had to sell his Harley to buy a refrigerator for their home. The refrigerator is still running. Roger has lived his whole life on the same farm on the Spirit River.

He loved farming and gardening, and he was an avid writer and poet. Roger also served in the CCC camp in 1939, was the Town of Tomahawk Clerk for 30 years and was a member of the Tomahawk Historical Society and the Covenant Church of Tomahawk.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Boelter of Kaukauna, Wis., Deborah Hilt of Madison, Wis., and Denise (Randy) Michal of Chippewa Falls; three sons, Douglas (Joni) Hilt of Thomaston, Maine, Gary (Terry) Hilt of Tomahawk and Joseph Hilt of Wausau. Roger is further survived by 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant son, Bruce; and a brother, Henry.
