John Trapp

Eagle River resident John William Trapp, 56, died March 19, 2004, at Alaska Regional Hospital of natural causes.

A service of remembrance was held Saturday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Anchorage. His family will scatter his cremated remains at a private location.

Mr. Trapp was born April 2, 1947, in Tomahawk, Wis.

He became a resident of Alaska in 1969. He worked on the North Slope from 1969 to 1985, operating heavy equipment. He worked for ESSCO Co., R.L. Martin, E.D. Beech and on the Alaska pipeline for two years in the mid '70s. In summers he worked for Wilder Construction building roads. He settled in Anchorage in 1985. He met Helene, and together they managed King Alaska Apartments until 1991, when they moved to Eagle River. He worked for South Fork Construction from 1988 to 2004.

His family wrote: "John was a great outdoorsman and loved taking family and friends hunting and fishing throughout Alaska.

"He was a great guy with a big heart. He is loved by family and well liked by everyone who has ever known him. He had a passion to give, loved helping family and friends in any way possible and rarely asked for anything in return."

Survivors include his wife, Helene Trapp of Eagle River; brothers, Dennis Trapp and Barry Trapp of Woodruff, Wis.; sisters, Shirley Engle of Pensacola, Fla., and Joeanne Trapp of Milwaukee; daughter, Chena Trapp of Milwaukee; nephew and spouse, Tim and Christine Trapp of Eagle River; stepchildren and their spouses, Lydia and Mark McLaren of Anchorage Melvin and Kim Binkley of Pennsylvania.

His parents, Raymond and Mae Trapp, preceded him in death.

Arrangements were with Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
