Arlyn Knutson

Arlyn R. Knutson, age 71, of N3959 Mosser Road, Gleason, town of Schley, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Golden Age Nursing Home, Tomahawk.

Arlyn was born September 12, 1933, in Jackson County, Wis., son of the late Reider and Alleda (Hanson) Knutson. He married Elaine Fromm on May 7, 1955, in Blair, Wis. She survives.

Arlyn served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 until 1956, and was stationed in San Diego, Alaska, Hawaii, Japan and Korea. He was employed with the Eau Claire Police Department for seven years following his military service. Arlyn was then employed for 25 years at the Lincoln Hills School in Irma. At the time of his retirement in January of 1994 he was a youth counselor/supervisor.

Arlyn was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Merrill, the Barber Shop Chorus, the Old Timer’s Club of Merrill, the LST Association, and was a counselor for the Job Corps in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. His hobbies included traveling and visiting family and friends, spending winters in Texas, working in the woods, woodworking, golfing and fishing.

Survivors besides his wife include one daughter, Tressa (Phil) Knutson-Eide of Jackson, Miss.; two sons, Kevin Knutson of Gleason, and Keith (Kathyrn) Knutson of Rhinelander; five grandchildren, Amy Knutson (fiancé, Travis White), Ross Knutson, Erik and Ambe Eide, and Brandy Robnett; four great-grandchildren, Erica, Justin, Jaylon, and Tavieon; two sisters, Armella (Allen) Skoyen of Osseo, Wis., and Lavina Aanerud of Eleva, Wis.; one brother, Theron (Avis) Knutson of Pigeon Falls, Wis.; two step-sisters, Alva (Gerald) Anaas of Eau Claire and Charlene (Randy) Mauer of Prairie du Chien; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Ted Gulhaugen will officiate. Burial will be in Luther Memorial Church Cemetery, town of Schley.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and at the church on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

Memorials may be directed to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church or the Eye Cancer Research Foundation.
