Gerald E. Behrens

SHULLSBURG, Wis. -- Gerald E. Behrens, 77, of Appleton, formerly of Shullsburg, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at his home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Casey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Cuba City, with Pastor Denise Anderson officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Benton. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Gerald was born on Nov. 14, 1931, in Gleason, son of Edward and Helen (Masbruch) Behrens. He married Ann Conella on Sept. 5, 1953; she preceded him in death. He then married Sonja Rooney on May 6, 1965; she preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 1999. He later married Diane Meyer on Sept. 15, 2000.

Gerald spent 13 years in the Air Force. He graduated in June of 1968, from Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee.

He was a 29 year volunteer for the Division of Veterans as a driver of veterans to doctor appointments. Gerald also was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Diane; two daughters, Joan Wilson and Jacquelyn Hartwell, of Texas; four sons, James Behrens and Edward (Lisa) Behrens, of Fennimore, David (Kelly) Behrens, of Belmont, and Daniel (Patricia) Behrens, of Muscoda; three step-daughters, Theresa (Randal) Linskens, of Neenah, Jenee (Brian) Briske, of Appleton, and Leslie Bonita, of Oshkosh; two step-sons, Tim (Deana) Lawrence and Shawn Lawrence, both of Benton; four sisters, Dorelle (Raymond) Steele, of Ocala, Fla., Patricia Behrens and Donna (Donald) Rielly, both of Hazel Green, and Helene Ruege, of Green Bay; a brother, Robert Behrens, of Morton, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Delores Behrens, of Belvidere, Ill.; and a brother-in-law, John Burkle, of Dubuque; 23 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Beta Burkle; a brother, Eugene Behrens; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Behrens.

The family would like to thank the Veterans Administration in Milwaukee, and THEDA CARE (Hospice) for all their help and support.
