Edwin J. Swanson, 96, 1401 Highland Drive, Merrill, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from the Minnesota State Highway Department as a foreman after 38 years.

Survivors include one son, Garth (Frieda) Swanson, Merrill; one stepson, Donald (Mary) Smith, Rice Lake; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd, Minn. Burial took place in Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd, with military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 255 Color Guard.

A private visitation was held Sunday at the Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill.
