Jay Ziglinski

If a photograph in The Palm Beach Post is vivid, sharp and true to its natural color, Jay Ziglinski deserved a lot of the credit.

One of the newspaper's pre-press systems specialists for more than two decades, Mr. Ziglinski, 46, of Wellington, died in his sleep Sunday. A cause of death has not been determined.

"Jay was excellent in preparing color reproduction for the printing press," Bob Balfe, the paper's vice president for operations, said Monday. "When computers came along, he was instrumental in making the transition to digital. He was a key member of our color-quality team. I always called him Dr. Dot, and later on just Doc. He specialized in color quality and was one of the reasons we won contests over the years. He will be missed."

A native of Merrill, Wis., Mr. Ziglinski was raised in Appleton, but came to West Palm Beach after high school and joined The Post in 1981 as a scanner operator.

Friends remember him as a lifelong fisherman and an avid football fan.

"He loved his Green Bay Packers," said Judy Thibodeau, the mother of Mr. Ziglinski's son, Logan, 8, and a colleague at The Post. "He saw Logan every day and spent time with him every week. Logan was the light of his life."

In addition to his son, Mr. Ziglinski is survived by two brothers, Joe of Blaine, Minn., and Jerry of Appleton, as well as two sisters, Amy Ziglinski and Angie Flores, also of Appleton.

A cremation and memorial service are planned, but funeral arrangements were incomplete Monday at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, West Palm Beach.

*Both birth and death dates were taken from the SSDI.
