Elmer G. Kanitz

Elmer G. Kanitz, 90, of 215 Grand Ave., Merrill, died Thursday, November 11, 2004, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, under Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Elmer was born September 10, 1914, in the town of Corning, son of the late Gustav and Anna Wendland Kanitz.

Elmer served with the United States Army during World War II, and was stationed in the South Pacific. He had been employed at Semco in Merrill. Elmer enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, snowshoeing and walking. He also enjoyed studying genealogy.

Survivors include his daughters, Gwen (Michael) Schmidt and Rhonda (Timothy) Kanitz-Henrichs, both of Merrill; sons Gordon, Victor (Theresa) and Virgil (Laurie), all of Merrill; grandchildren Ryan (Cheryl) Kanitz, and Brad (Ginger) Kanitz, Jason Schmidt, Kelly (Jason) Weith and Becky Schmidt; and great-grandchildren, Trinity Kanitz, Logan Kanitz, and Eliana Kanitz and Allison Schmidt.

Also survivoring are step-grandchildren Tim Slozes, Tracy Slozes and Tanya Slozes; step-great-grandchildren Hunter and Sebastian; and brothers Leslie (Dorothy) and Lylas, both of Merrill.

He was preceded in death by sisters Alice Kanitz and Eleanor Schulz and brother Alvin.

Funeral services were Monday, November 15, at the Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Joel Danner officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park.
