Lona M. Rokser

Lona M. Rokser, 86, of Merrill, died Thursday, March 15, 2007, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Lona was born in Bessemer, Mich., to the late Bessie Weber and Albert Milton LaMarche.

She graduated from Luther L. Wright High School and worked for S.S. Kresge in Ironwood, Mich., and GTE in DeKalb, Ill., before her retirement.

Lona loved to travel and had many hobbies, including cross-stitch embroidery, card making, rubber stamping and needlework crafts. She especially enjoyed nature, special friends from water aerobics, and time with family. Lona was a member of Bible Presbyterian Church, Merrill.

Survivors include her daughters Lona Huvila, Bessemer, Mich.; Mary (Gerald) Maki, Saginaw, Mich.; and Sue (James) George, Merrill; son Joe (Chu) Rokser, California; 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brother Joseph "Oz" LaMarche, Boise, Idaho; sister Carol LaMarche, Idaho; and a very special dog Chancelar.

She was preceded in death by son Bill Holman; sisters Anita Winkowski, Carmen Kravetz and Nancy Pfotenhauer; and brother John LaMarche.

Funeral services were Sunday, March 18, at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Robert Smallman officiated. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer, Mich., in the spring.
