Eldor T. Helmke

Eldor T. Helmke, 79, of 13650 Ninth Lane, Hamburg, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Eldor was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Hamburg, son of the late Ben and Anna (Pruss) Helmke. He married Mildred B. Berndt on June 19, 1948, in the town of Corning. She preceded him in death on April 27, 1992.

Eldor and his late wife owned and operated a dairy farm in the town of Hamburg. Eldor had also been employed by the town of Hamburg as a grader operator. He was a former supervisor for the town of Hamburg. Eldor was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Hamburg, and had been the financial secretary of the church for several years. Eldor enjoyed listening and dancing to polka music and following sporting events, especially the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers.

He is survived by four daughters, Diane (David) Hinz and Marlene (Rolly) Koppa, all of Hamburg, Marie (Chris) Lyon, Green Bay, and Lori (Robert) Baumann, Hamburg; two granddaughters, Amy and Sara Hinz, both of Hamburg; and one sister, Arlene Christian, Wausau.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, at St. John Lutheran Church, town of Hamburg. The Rev. John Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, town of Hamburg. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the ladies who provided personal and loving care to our father while he was in his home.
