DeLaine Bursen

DeLaine Janet Bursen, 82, of Merrill died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.

She was born March 29, 1921, in Merrill, daughter of the late Gustav and Bertha (Zastrow) Karau. She married Leo B. Hiller Aug. 18, 1940, in Merrill. He died July 10, 1972. She married Jack "Jake" Sturman May 3, 1985. He died Oct. 13, 1988. She then married Andris Bursen July 26, 1990, in Merrill. He survives.

She was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill, and the Dorcas Society. She worked at the J.C. Penney office in Merrill from 1957 until the explosion in 1960. She also worked at the Holy Cross Hospital until 1984 as a receptionist and insurance clerk until her retirement.

Survivors include her husband, Andris Bursen, Merrill; one son, Larry (Sandra) Hiller, Marathon City; one daughter, Joy (Donald) Ashbrook, Torrance, Calif.; one stepson, James Bursen, Huntington, Ind.; one stepdaughter, Jean (Ralph) Gregory, Brookhaven, Miss.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn (Wilbert) Fruend of Merrill and Lorraine Luedtke of Ravenna, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first two husbands, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill. The Rev. Kunkel will officiate. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be donated to St. Stephen's UCC Radio Ministry or the charity of your choice.
