Stanley Francis Bauman, 85, of Merrill, died Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at his resident under Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Born in Bloomville on March 16, 1919, Stanley was the son of the late Henry and Frances Roechl Bauman. Her married Lydia Pezzi on December 13, 1952, at St. Francis Church in Merrill.

Stanley held a variety of jobs prior to his services in the Army Air Corps during WWII. The employment he most liked to reminisce about was as a cook’s helper (Cookee) in Harry Doering’s Lumber Camp. He also served many area juke boxes and early slot machines for Johnny Borros. Following his discharge from the Air Corps, he was employed as a millwork salesman for the Wisconsin Window Unit Co and for Lincoln Wood Products before starting his own company, Merrill Millwork, in 1966. An avid walleye fisherman, he hosted many opening day get-togethers at his cottage on Lake Nokomis. He dedicated himself to God, his family, his employees, his community and those in need.

Survivors include his wife Lydia; son William (Julie), Merrill; daughters Ann Marie (Stephan) Kunz, Minocqua; and Mary Frances (Dan Jackson), Merrill; grandchildren Nicholas and Victoria Bauman; and step-grandchildren Lee and Alex Carlson and Jeremy, Charlotte and David Kunz. Also surviving are sisters Carol Van Ert, Mayville; Mary Ann (Bill) Taylor, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and Shirley Hommeding, Gleason; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by brothers Leo and Carl; and brothers-in-law Lawrence Van Ert, Dennis Ruprect and Elmer Hommerding.

Funeral services were Monday, January 3, 2005, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. James Horath officiated. Burial was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Comfort Care and Hospice Services, St. Frances Xavier Building Fund Bell Tower Residence, the Food Pantry, the Merrill Historical Society or a charity of choose.
