Earl R. “Mike” Johnson, 88, of 402 Himes St., Merrill, died Friday, January 7, 2005, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

Earl was born December 7, 1916, in Wausau, son of the late Charles and Viola Johnson. He married Eileen Nelson in Merrill on June 24, 1940. She survivors. Earl served in the Wisconsin National Guard. He was a yardmaster for the Milwaukee Road Railroad. Earl was member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Merrill. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing the guitar and photography.

Survivors besides his wife Eileen include daughters, Jean (Gary) Schmidt, Merrill; and Linda (Orin) Legare, Randolph, Minn.; sons John (Audrey), Gleason; and Randy (Denee), Cannon Falls, Minn.; grandchildren Stacey, Angela, Timothy, Corey, Tyler, Noel, Tara, Dane, Brandon, Hillary, Blake and Brady; and step-brother Arthur (Marge) Hanson, Minocqua. He preceded in death by son Richard “Dick”, in 1980; brothers Charles and Bryon “Bud”, and two half sisters.

Funeral services were Tuesday, January 11, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. Ted Gulhaguen officiated. Entombment was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family with arrangements.
