Gilbert Steinagel

Gilbert Steinagel, 80, of Wausau, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007,at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Gilbert was born Jan. 28, 1927, in the town of Hamburg, to the late Frederick and Leona Schultz Steinagel. He married Reynale Jahnke in 1947. Reynale preceded him in death in 1985. He married June Bricko Jachowicz in 1987. June survives.

Gilbert served in the United States Army during World War II in Kobe, Japan. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Victory Medal WWII, and the WWII Occupation Medal. Gilbert was a member of VFW Burns Post #388 in Wausau. He was a devout member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Wausau. Gilbert worked as a cabinet maker for many years and owned Steinagel's Bar. He enjoyed carpentry, trout fishing, golf, woodcrafts, was a Brewers fan and a Packers fan.

Survivors include his wife June of Wausau; son Neil (Laurel), Merrill; daughters Lona (Greg) Hoffman, Fort Collins, Colo.; and Gail (Jim) Westberg, Merrill; daughter-in-law Pat Steinagel, Merrill; stepson Terry (Kate) Jachowicz, Neenah; stepdaughter Fran (Gary) Hether, West Salem; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Harold (Joyce), Wausau; and Merlin (Judy), Merrill; and sister Irene Bartelt, Wausau.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Reynale, son Blaine Steinagel and stepson Tom Jachowicz.

Funeral services were Friday, March 23, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wausau. Burial was is Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, town of Berlin.

The Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, handled the arrangements.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Ahuja and the angels at Aspirus Clinic and Aspirus Hospital.
