Clara B. Leuenberger, 99, formerly of W3324 Center Rd., Merrill, Town of Pine River, died Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.

Clara was born December 4, 1905, in Uster, Switzerland, daughter of the late Gottlieb and Kuningunde Opitz Wirz. She married Gottfried Leuenberger on May 15, 1937, in Merrill. He preceded her in death on January 11, 1976.

Clara was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church, Merrill. She loved God and gardening. For 50 years Clara grew fresh flowers for the church’s altar.

Survivors include her daughter Trudy (Paul) Hall, Wattsburg, Pa.; and Margaret (Bruce) Giese, Merrill; son Walter (Debby), Merrill; daughter-in-law Madria Leuenberger, Milwaukee; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Melvin, seven sisters and seven brothers.

Funeral services were Saturday, February 12, at Christ United Methodist Church, Merrill. Rev. Carolyn Saunders officiated. Burial was in St. Paul’s Church Cemetery, Town of Pine River. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Christ United Methodist Church or to the Billy Graham Association at: 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, N C 28201-0001.
