Barbara J. Drake, 62, of Salem, Ill.; died unexpectedly Friday, January 28, 2005, at Salem Township Hospital.

Barbara was born in Merrill on November 7, 1942, daughter of Melvin and Alice Gatterman Alberg.

Barbara attended St. Francis Parochial School and graduated from Merrill High School in 1960. She also attended the UW Eau Claire where she met and later married her husband Howard J. Drake Jr. in Toluca, Mexico, on June 12, 1963.

Barbara (Bonnie to family and friends) lived in many locations around the U. S. including Wisconsin, Iowa, Texas, Ohio, Kentucky, South Caroline and Illinois. She was an avid reader, collected Santas and enjoyed creating beautiful counted cross stitch Santa pictures. She also enjoyed bird watching and spending time with her beloved pet Sheba and Amica.

Survivors include her husband Howard, Salem, Ill.; her mother Alice Alberg; sons Howard J. (Anne) III; Harrison; Robert P. (Julie), Woodlawn, Ill.; and William F. Drake, Augusta; grandson William J. Drake, Woodlawn, Ill.; sister-in-law Mary (Barry) Sumner, Indianapolis, Ind.; and their daughter Christine Gaul and son Stephen. She is further survives by aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by her father in 1993.

Private family services were held at the Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem, Ill. On Monday, January 31. Deacon Darren Eultgen of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church officiated.
