Ethel Marion Akey, 88, of Merrill, died Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.

Born in Merrill on May 1, 1916, Ethel was the daughter of the late Louise and Julia Broderson McMahan. She married Norbert Akey in Merrill on September 4, 1937. He passed away March 18, 1959.

Ethel had worked at Merrill Box Company for many years. She later worked for the Merrill Pea Cannery. Ethel also did babysitting and house cleaning. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Merrill. Ethel enjoyed walking and was fond of children and dogs.

Survivors include her daughter Shirley (Marlowe) Roeder, Merrill; Steve (Patti Linehan), Schofield; grandchildren Debbie (Dean) Lemke, Mark (Lynn) Roeder and Toni (Jeff) Cammack, all of Merrill; great-grandchildren Mike and Nick Latzig and Mitchael and Brianna Cammack, all of Merrill; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Norbert, son Dale, three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were Saturday, February 26, at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Don King officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The family requests memorials be made to the Lincoln County Humane Society.
