Frank C. Magnus, 83, of 1610 W. Wind Dr., Rhinelander, formerly of Harrison, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rhinelander.

Frank was born January 10, 1922, in Harrison, son of the late Charles and Josephine Magnus. He was united in marriage on October 19, 1946, in Tomahawk to Grace Hoertsch.

Frank was a corporal in the U. S. Army during World War II, serving in the African and Italian theaters. He returned to Harrison after the war and was a self-employed dairy farmer until he moved to Rhinelander in late 2003. Frank was active in local politics, serving as Harrison town clerk for nearly 50 years. He was also a member of the Lincoln County Board for 20 years, including four years as County Board chairman. He was a former member of the Associated Cooperatives Board and had served on the board of directors of the Wisconsin Mutual Insurance Corporation. Frank was also instrumental in the construction of the current Lincoln County Jail. His County board duties allowed him to serve on many county and statewide committees. As an elected official, Frank was known for his honesty and integrity.

Survivors include his wife Grace; son Charles (Wilbur Smith), Honolulu, Hawaii; daughters Diane (Jim) Yunek, Wausau; and Debby (Mark) Hansen; New Lisbon; grandchildren Jimmer Yunek, Meredith (Dan) Brezinski, Elayne and Adele Hansen; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Emil and Joe and sister Rose VanderVoort.

Funeral services were Sunday, March 6, at Krueger and Sons Funeral Home, Tomahawk, preceded by a veteran’s memorial service. Rev. Dennis Creswell officiated. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in the spring. The family would appreciate memorial to the American Diabetes Association or Ministry Home Care Hospice.
