Gust Peter Peterson, 81, route one, Irma, former Town of Birch chairman, died early last Wednesday morning in Holy Cross Hospital, Merrill.

He had been ailing for the past year and was seriously ill the past six weeks. He was a retired farmer and logger. He was born March 4, 1882 in Sweden and came to the United States in 1887. He was married to Olga Kristina Person May 14, 1907 in Irma.

Mr. Peterson was a charter member of Bethany Lutheran church at Irma and served on the church board since it's organization. At the time of his death he was president emeritus of the church council. He also was a member of the church men's club and president of the Bethany Lutheran Church association. In addition to serving as town chairman for many years, he also served as a member of the board of education of the Irma State Graded school.

Survivors are his wife; six daughters, Mrs. T. A. (Roselle) Holthusen, Stevens Point, Mrs. M. E. (Margaret) Dillman, Lac Du Flambeau, Mrs. E. C. (Violet) Onstad, Marshfield, Mrs. C. A. (Signe) Elmer, Merrill, Mrs. F. M. (Alva) Rudy, Kenosha, and Mrs. F. J. (Elene) Lee, Marshfield; a son, Wilhelm G. Peterson, Irma. Also, two brothers, Otto, Town of Birch, and Oscar, Lac du Flambeau; and 19 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Services were Saturday in Bethany Lutheran church, with the Rev. Orville Olson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Taylor funeral home, Merrill, was in charge of arrangements.
