Naomi Grace Schaefer, 82, of Merrill, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Good Samaritan Health Center under Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.

Born in Merrill on Jul 11, 1922, Naomi was the daughter of the late George and Selma Beine Henrich. She married Arthur Schaefer on April 27, 1946, in Merrill. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2003.

Naomi was a graduate of Merrill High School. She farmed with her husband in the town of Merrill. In her earlier years, Naomi worked as a secretary at Anson-Gilkey in Merrill. She was a life-long member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ in Merrill and the Dorcas Society.

Naomi enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing, canning, walking, cross-county skiing, and spending time with her family.

Surviving are her daughter Barbara Schaefer, Hawaii; sons Phil (Jean), Tomahawk; and Bruce (Janet), Merrill; grandchildren Dr. Michael (Jill) Schaefer, Grafton, Ohio; and Bethany Schaefer, Wausau; great-granddaughters Julia and Amanda; and sister Carol (Wilburn) Weber, Irma.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur and brothers Roger, Wallace and Gerald Henrich.

Funeral services were Monday, March 14, at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. Rev. Earl Eckhart officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given at St. Stephen’s Endowment Fund or the charity of choice.
