Gertrude A. Van Slate, 89, of Wausau, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill, under Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Born in Edgar on November 12, 1915, Gertrude was the daughter of the late August and Anna Passehl Gartman. She married Stanley Van Slate on November 12, 1937, in Merrill. He preceded her in death in May 1983.

Gertrude was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau. She enjoyed watching and feeding the bride, collecting tea pots and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter Marlene Henrichs, Merrill; son Gerald (Barbara), Wausau; grandchildren Jesse, James, Jay, John Mac and Sharon Van Slate, Karl and Miss Henrichs, and Jenny Henrichs-Caskey; great-granddaughter, Angel. Also surviving are sister Ivy Hoffman, Merrill; and Estelle Hawkins, Poinciana, Fla.; and brother Mike (Nancy) Gartman, Merrill. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley, sons Dennis and Jeffrey, daughter Joann, four sisters and a brother.

Memorial services were Tuesday, March 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Dennis Pegorsch officiated. The Waid Funeral home, Merrill, handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Woodland Court or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bloomville.
