Clara M. Smith, 94, of 204 Blaine St., Merrill, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Woodland Court, Merrill.

Clara was born November 3, 1910, in Merrill, daughter of the late Richard and Albertina Hinz Voigt. She married Leslie W. Smith in Merrill on August 27, 1927. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1959.

Clara was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. She was employed in Merrill Manufacturing for 25 years. Clara enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, cooking, attending her family’s sporting events, and the comp nay of her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters Valencia “Val” Grunenwald, Merrill; and Verdelma Guest, Park Forest, Ill.; sons Stanley (Dorrie), Merrill; and Leslie Jr. (Sharon), Racine; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother Richard (Martha) Voigt, Merrill; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by an infant son, sons-in-law Floyd Grunenwald and Jack Guest; sisters Olga Rakow, Martha Kienbaum, Mabel Klug; and Amalia, Elma, Esther and Lordine Voigt; and brothers Gottlieb and Ralph Voigt.

Funeral services were Wednesday, April 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. David Klemm officiated. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, town of Maine. The Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, served the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Athletic Park Restoration Fund.
