Leona M. Borchardt, 97, of Wausau, died Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehab, Wausau.

Born in Merrill on July 9, 1907, Leona was the daughter of the late August and Laura Emmerich Plautz. She married Raymond Borchardt on December 15, 1926, in the town of Corning. He preceded her in death on October 31, 1987.

Leona had worked at Fromm Brothers, Skipper’s Restaurant, and Nelson’s Drive In. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking, attending church, playing board and card games, and spending time with her family. Leona also did volunteer work at Jenny Towers in Merrill.

Surviving are her daughters Marion (Laurin) Jehn, Wausau; and Elaine Paul and Jean (Eldred) Zastrow, both of the town of Hamburg; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, two grandsons and a son-in-law.

Funeral services were Sunday, September 26, at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. Alden Beversdorf officiated. Burial was in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Town of Scott. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, handled the arrangements.
