LaVerne C. Lonsdorf, 83, of Merrill, died Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

LaVerne was born March 30, 1921, in Athens, daughter of the late Ferdinand and Margaret Freiders Lonsdorf. LaVerne was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where she majored in English. She taught English at various public high schools throughout Wisconsin. LaVerne enjoyed golfing, swimming and playing cards.

Survivors include three sisters, Marie Lonsdorf and Mildred “Mony” Iverson, both of Merrill, and Irene Fuller, Wausau; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters Margaret Lonsdorf, Bernice Bartley and Viola Hamm, and three brothers, Charles, Herbert and Ferdinand.

A memorial service for LaVerne was held Friday, October 15, at the Holy Cross Chapel at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill; with the Rev. Edward F. Powell officiating. Burial is in the Lonsdorf Family lot in Calvary Cemetery, Athens. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be directed to the Bell Tower Memorial Fund.
