Fidelis George Ament, 85, of Merrill, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at his residence under Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Born in Merrill on January 28, 1919, Fidelis was the son of the late John and Clara Sundeen Ament. He married Helen Zastrow on August 10, 1946, in Merrill. She survives.

Del had been employed at Weinbrenner Shoe Company, then the city of Merrill Street Department for 12 years, then bought the Avenue Bar which he and his wife operated for 20 years. Following the sale of their tavern, Del worked at the Lincoln County Bank for eight years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood on his land, camping and traveling. During WWII, Del served in the U. S. Army from 1941 to 1945.

Survivors include his wife Helen, Merrill; son Rickey (Barb), and grandchildren Rick Ament, Brad Ament, Jeff (Joanne) Brandenburg and Jessica (Craig) Neumann, all of Merrill; great-granddaughter Jenny Brandenburg and great-grandson Zachery Neumann. He was preceded in death by daughter Peggy Brandenburg and brothers Harold and John.

Funeral services were Saturday, November 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. David Klemm officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family.
