Wilma Scharbius, 94, of Lake Pesobic Rd., Merrill, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.

Wilma was born July 15, 1910, in Merrill, daughter of the late Robert and Rose Yanda Kemp. She married Edgar Scharbius, an accountant at Brose’s Flower Center in Merrill on August 11, 1945. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1985, after 40 years of marriage.

Wilma was baptized and confirmed at First Presbyterian Church, Merrill. She graduated from Merrill High School in 1926. As a career woman, Wilma worked for 38 years as an office manger at the former Hamlin Insurance Agency, the former Fata Voight Insurance Agency, all of Merrill, until her retirement. Wilma knitted lap robes, mittens and booties for the residents at the Marathon County Health Care Center. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, crocheting and working at her church.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband and only sister Hazel L. Kemp, who died September 2002. She is survived by several close friends who kept vigil with her during the last days of her life.

Funeral services were Friday, November 19, at the Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Donald King officiated. Burial was in the Merrill Memorial Park.
