Edna L. Smith, 92, of 15000 O’Day Street, Merrill, formerly of Gleason, died Sunday, November 21, 2004, at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.

Edna was born May 26, 1912, in Independence, daughter of the late Oscar and Ada Farrand Roou. She was a beautician before marrying Edward L. Smith on July 13, 1935.

Edna and Ed made their home in Gleason, where Edna worked in the Post Office for 25 years. She retired in 1975. She and Ed were married for 46 years when he passed away on May 21, 1981.

Survivors include her grandson Scott (Sandy) Smith, Woodbury, Minn.; daughter-in-law Beverly Smith, Eau Claire; sister Marie (Francis) Kurth, Willmington, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews and loving friends. She was preceded in death by her son William “Bill”, sisters Lucille Trantow and Mugs Hockstock, and brothers Spencer, Russell, Stanley and Foster.

Funeral services were Wednesday, November 24, in Holy Cross chapel at Bell Tower Residence. Rev. James Primley officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bell Tower Residence Library Fund and Education Fund. Burial took place in Merrill Memorial Park.
