Wednesday, 1 Dec. 2004; page 12 ---Harbath, Jerome “Bud” A. (24 April 1924 – 24 Nov. 2004) Jerome “Bud” A. Harbath, 80 of W5631 Tannery Rd., Merrill, town of Scott, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill. Bud was born April 24, 1924, in Merrill, son of the late Walter and Elsie Zuelke Harbath. He married Ruth Betin on November 10, 1951. She survives. Bud was a 1941 graduate of Merrill Senior High School. He then served his country with the U. S. Army during World War II, beginning his enlistment in 1942. Bud landed on the beaches of Frances six days after D-Day Invasion, and saw action in the European Theatre until his honorable discharge in December 1945. Bud returned to Merrill and was employed at the Weinbrenner Shoe Company until his retirement in 1986. Bud was also employed at the Merrill Golf Club. He was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ in Merrill, where he and his wife recently received the “Faith Award.” Bud was the former secretary/treasurer for the shoe workers union at Weinbrenner’s. Besides golfing, Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards. Survivors besides his wife Ruth include his sons Randy (Nancy), Green Bay; and Michael (Lee), Merrill; and grandchildren Katie Harbath, Washington, D. C.; Megan Harbath, UW Stevens Point; Andy Harbath, Green Bay; Kristy Schmidt, Coleman; and Katie Schmidt, Merrill. Also surviving are sisters Alice Hinkley, Port Townsend, Wash.; and Bernice Knospe and Harriet (Daniel) Woller, both of Merrill; and brother-in-law Harry Banaszak, King. He was preceded in death by sisters Margaret Ricci, Dorothy Banaszak and Jeanette Michalski. Funeral services were Monday, November 29, at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. Rev. Earl Eckhart officiated. Burial was in Snow Hill Cemetery, Town of Scott, with graveside military rates conducted by VFW Post 1638, Merrill. The Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, was in charge of arrangements. |
