Denise W. Gritzmacher, 37, of Wausau, died Sunday, December 12, 2004, at North Central Health Facilities, Wausau.

Born in Merrill on July 28, 1967, Denise was the daughter of James Hightower Sr. and Wynesther Simmons.

Denise graduated from Merrill High School in 1985. She had worked as a certified nursing assistant at Pine Crest Nursing Home and Pine Haven in Merrill, and later at Mountview Nursing Home in Wausau. Denise was a talented artist. She enjoyed playing softball, shooting pool and listening to music.

Survivors include her daughter Makiesha Gritzmacher, Rhinelander; son Philip Gritzmacher, Merrill; mother Wynester, Chicago, Ill.; father James Hightower, Irma; sister Robbin (Walter) Carter, Chicago, Ill.; and brothers James (Lisa) Hightower, Evan Mill, N. Y.; and Jeffrey Hightower, Wausau. She was preceded in death by sister Jackie.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday, December 17, at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Jack Shook will officiate. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Friday morning to the hour of services.
