Vernette Una Gruett, 82, of Merrill, died Wednesday, December 8, 2004, at North Central Health Care, Wausau, under Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Vernette was born August 30, 1922, in Merrill, daughter of the late Harold and Sadie Houston Lambrecht. She married Paul A. Gruett on May 30, 1941, in Merrill. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1991. Vernette was the secretary and accountant at Gruett’s Appliance Store in Merrill.

Survivors include her daughter Kay Marie (Leon ) Battle, Merrill; sons Edward (Kristine), Merrill ; and Carl L., Wausau; daughters-in-law Kathy Gruett, Merrill; and Marilyn Lemon, Wausau; grandchildren Nicole Gruett, Merrill; Erick Gruett, Irma, Dustin Gruett, Merrill; Daniel Gruett, University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind.; Heidi Schallberg, Kansas City, Mo.; and Tim Schallberg, Burnsville, Minn.; and great-grandson Isaiah Jacob Gruett, Merrill. Also surviving are sisters Janice Bloomfield, Sun City, Ariz.; Carol (Bern) Stiver, Medford; Lois (Darrell) Wendorf, Merrill;; Diane (DuWayne) Kleinschmidt, Wausau; and Ellen Holt, Gleason; and brothers Dale Lambrecht, Manitowoc; Dennis Lambrecht, Glendale, Ariz.; and William Lambrecht, Sheboygan. She was preceded in death by twin daughters Helen and Donna; sisters Dorothy Jankowsky and Ruth McNeil; and brother Harold Lambrecht Jr.

Funeral services were Saturday, December 11, at The Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Earl Eckhart officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park.

The family would like to express appreciation to the staff at Comfort Care and Hospice Services and also the staff at North Central Health Care, C-Unit, for their care of Vernette. The family suggests memorial be directed towards Comfort Care and Hospice Services, Alzheimer’s Association, Parkinson’s Research, or the charity of your choice.
