Van Slate, 89, Wausau, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was a homemaker. Survivors include daughter, Marlene Henrichs, Merrill; one son, Gerald (Barbara) Van Slate, Wausau; eight grandchildren; four-great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Ivy Hoffman, Merrill, and Estelle Hawkins, Poinciana, Fla.; and one brother, Mike (Nancy) Gartman, Merrill. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. Van Slate Gertrude A. Van Slate, 89, of Wausau died Friday, March 18, 2005, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill. Gertrude was born Nov. 12, 1915, in Edgar, daughter of the late August and Anna (Pathail) Gartman. She married Stanley Van Slate on Nov. 12, 1937, in Merrill. He preceded her in death May 1983. Gertrude was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau. She enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, collecting teapots and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter, Marlene Henrichs of Merrill; one son, Gerald (Barbara) Van Slate of Wausau; eight grandchildren, Jesse, James, Jay, John Mac and Sharon Van Slate, and Karl and Missy Henrichs, and Jenny Henrichs-Caskey; four great-granddaughters, Ella Caskey and Katherine, Callie and Tonia Van Slate; one great-great-granddaughter, Angel; two sisters, Ivy Hoffman of Merrill and Estelle Hawkins of Poinciana, Fla.; and one brother, Mike (Nancy) Gartman, Merrill. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; two sons, Dennis and Jeffrey; one daughter, Joann; four sisters; and one brother. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Rev. Dennis Pegorsch will officiate. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the church. Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family with arrangements. |
