Edward 'Brownie' Bronsteatter

Edward "Brownie" Bronsteatter, 89, Merrill, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

He was born Aug. 28, 1916, to the late John and Margaret (Anderson) Bronsteatter, in Merrill. He married Lucille Fischer-Walters in Merrill. She survives.

Brownie was a skilled cabinet maker and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. He also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1638 in Merrill. Brownie will be remembered and appreciated for 3 1/2 years of honorable service in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an avid baseball fan and played in his younger years.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Walters-Bronsteatter, Merrill; one son, Gregory Bronsteatter, Merrill; two stepdaughters, Sharyn (Mark) Long, St. Paul, Minn., and Polly (Fred) Berndt, Hartville, Ohio; one stepson, Tom (Liz) Walters, Ashland, Ore.; one sister, Irene Bronsteatter, Merrill; and many grandchildren, relatives and friends. Brownie was preceded in death by his first wife, Harriet, and his son, John.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Merrill. The Rev. James Horath will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service at the church. Full military honors will be provided by the VFW Post No. 1638 Honor Guard.

Waid Funeral Home in Merrill is assisting the family with arrangements.

Brownie's family would like to thank the Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Service workers for their compassionate support over the past months.
