Lois R. Kluetz

Lois R. Kluetz, 85, of 1500 O'Day St., Merrill, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2004, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.

Lois was born to the late Edna (Schroeder) and Conrad Randby on April 23, 1918, in Merrill. She married Frederick "Fritz" Kluetz Feb. 9, 1946. He preceded her in death June 1, 1957. Lois graduated from Merrill High School in 1936 and thereafter attended the former Merrill Commercial College. Lois was first employed by the Wisconsin Telephone Co., then in Madison in civil service. She was later employed at the former Citizens American Bank in Merrill. Lois then found employment with Wisconsin Public Service as their Consumer Consultant in Merrill and Rhinelander, retiring in 1981.

Lois was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ in Merrill. She was a member of the church choir for 60 years, and was the first female president of the Church Council. Lois was a charter member of the former Sweet Adeline's Club of Merrill, and was a quartet member. She was also a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Merrill. Lois enjoyed music and was a soloist at many events. She also enjoyed golfing, the Green Bay Packers, bird watching, and spending time at her cottage on Bass Lake in the Harrison Hills area of Lincoln County.

Lois is survived by her son, Michael (Penny) Kluetz, Rhinelander; two grandsons, Michael (Lisa) Kluetz Jr., Lindenhurst, Ill., and Matthew Kluetz, Rhinelander; one great-granddaughter, Shannah Kluetz, Lindenhurst; and two very close friends, Monica Talbot and Bernice Knospe, both of Merrill. A sister and brother-in-law, Lorane and Howard Vangen, preceded Lois in death.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2004, at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill. The Rev. Earl Eckhart and the Rev. Deb Kunkel will officiate. Burial will take place later this spring in Merrill Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.

Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.

The Kluetz family would like to thank the Holy Cross Sisters, the staff at Bell Tower Residence and Comfort Care and Hospice Services for their help and compassion.

The family requests memorials be directed to the Holy Cross Sisters or to Bell Tower Residence.
