Andrew Grlicky

1917-2009

Andrew "Andy" Grlicky, 92, Merrill, died Friday, Sept. 11 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Andy was born June 14, 1917, in Midland, Mich., son of the late Andrew and Susan (Kovak) Grlicky Sr. He married Lillian Schoenfeldt-Fiebke on February 27, 1960 in Sheryl, Iowa. She survives. Andy served his country with the United States Army during World War II. He enlisted in 1941 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He served during the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Andy worked as a crusher foreman at Peterson Construction until 1960. He then farmed in Medford from 1960 until they sold the farm in 1962. He returned to work for Peterson Construction until 1980. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local No. 139. Andy and Lillian moved to Merrill in 1980 and he took a position with B&D Motors until his retirement. Andy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. Andy was also a member of Klossner-Dietzler VFW Post No. 5729. He loved tending to his vegetable gardens. Andy and Lillian traveled to Las Vegas every year, and also enjoyed trips to local casinos. Andy liked working on crossword puzzles and watching the Game Show Network.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Grlicky of Merrill; one daughter, Joanne (Dennis) Brandner of Merrill; one son, Gerald Fiebke of Merrill; five grandchildren, Barbara (Jeff) Lamb, Amy (Dean) Campbell, Julie (Andrew) Zuelsdorff, Kay (Brian) Pomrening and Kim Fiebke; six great-grandchildren, Adam and Mitchell Lamb, Nicole and Taylor Zuelsdorff and Eve and Hannah Campbell; and one sister, Helen LaFontaine of Morton Grove, Ill. Andy was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 15 at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. The Rev. David Szeto officiated. Burial was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Medford Military Honors Team.

Taylor-Stine Funeral Home of Merrill assisted the family with arrangements.
