Harriet L. Getchell


Harriet L. Getchell, 95, of 711 E. First St., Merrill, died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Portage County Health Care Center, Stevens Point.

Harriet was born Jan. 13, 1911, in Prentice, daughter of the late Fred G. and Hattie Selke Krueger. She married Harold Getchell on Dec. 10, 1932, in De Pere. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1959.

Harriet worked as a sales clerk at various stores in Merrill, and had also been a nurse’s aid at the former Holy Cross Hospital in Merrill for 11 years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill, and was a former choir member at the church. Harriet enjoyed playing cards, reading, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughter Jean (Arden) Lange, Stevens Point; grandchildren Tim (Karen) Lange and Pam (José) Murillo, both of Stevens Point; Susan (Dave) Campbell, De Pere; Elizabeth (Tim) Gehring, Pinckney, Mich.; Bill Lange, Washington, D.C.; Sally (Tom) Mastin, Lyndstrom, Minn.; and Tom (Melissa) Lange, Pulaski; great-grandchildren Casey, Angela, Joel, Alia, Rachel, Emma, Spencer, Berlyn, Dixon, Autumn and Trevor; and sister Dorothy Johnson, Merrill.

Funeral services were Monday, June 19, at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. Kelly Leary officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park. The Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, handled the arrangements. The family suggests memorials to St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill.
