Franklin Wegner

Franklin L. Wegner, 66, Merrill, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1964 in Germany. He was a dairy farmer in the town of Corning and was employed at Ackert Brothers Appliances, Medford.

Survivors include his wife, Astrid Wegner, Merrill; four daughters, Marion (Wayne) Lammert and Robbin (Steve) Ranta, all of Merrill, Brenda (James) Jahnke, Athens, and Susan (Louis) Banuelos, Aurora, Ill.; one son, Robert (Kathy) Wegner, Merrill; one sister, Margaret (Roger) Kniess, Wausau; eight grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Richard Hagendorn, Merrill; one sister-in-law, Henrietta Wegner, Stetsonville; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Merrill. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, and will begin again at 9:30 a.m. Monday until the time of services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, Northland Lutheran High School, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice.

Franklin L. Wegner

Franklin L. Wegner, 66, Merrill, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born March 28, 1939, in Merrill, son of the late Edwin and Mable (Wendt) Wegner. He married Astrid Herrmannsdoerfer on June 14, 1962, in Nuernberg, Germany.

Franklin was a 1958 graduate of Merrill Senior High School. He then served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1964 in Germany. Franklin worked as a mechanic and later became an appliance service specialist for Sears, where he worked for more than 30 years. He also was a dairy farmer in the town of Corning. He currently was working for Ackert Brothers Appliances in Medford.

Franklin was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in the town of Berlin. He was branch president of Aid Associations for Lutherans 2597 for more than 30 years, and served in many offices in the church. He also was a delegate for Northland Lutheran High School.

Survivors include his wife, Astrid Wegner, Merrill; four daughters, Marion (Wayne) Lammert and Robbin (Steve) Ranta, all of Merrill, Brenda (James) Jahnke, Athens, and Susan (Louis) Banuelos, Aurora, Ill.; one son, Robert (Kathy) Wegner, Merrill; one sister, Margaret (Roger) Kniess, Wausau; eight grandchildren, Danielle and Christopher Lammert, Kyle Jahnke, Brandon Banuelos, Jennifer and Sarah Ranta, Patricia Wegner and Stacy Skutt; one brother-in-law, Richard Hagedorn, Merrill; one sister-in-law, Henrietta Wegner, Stetsonville; two aunts, Adeline Wendt, Merrill, and Verna Wegner, Tomahawk; one uncle, Walter Wegner, Crivitz; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David Wegner; one brother, Harry Wegner; one sister, Dolores Hagedorn; and one grandson, Michael Lammert.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Berlin. The Rev. Jeffrey Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, town of Berlin. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, and again from 9:30 a.m. Monday until the time of services at the church.
