Albert Zimmerman

Albert W. "Bud" Zimmerman, 91, of Woodruff, formerly of Merrill, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at Golden Age Nursing Home, Tomahawk, following a short illness.

Albert was born July 13, 1915, in the town of Hamburg, son of the late Albert Sr. and Anna (Juedes) Zimmerman. Albert married Marion Toellner on Sept. 27, 1947, in Merrill. She preceded him in death on July 2, 1990.

Bud was employed at Weinbrenner Shoe Co. for 43 years, having served on the credit union board. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands and later trained soldiers in Alabama. Bud served on the Merrill City Council as an alderman from 1946 to 1947. He retired in 1978 and moved with his wife, Marion, to Lac du Flambeau. Bud was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying many hours of fishing at his lake home. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post No. 8341 and its honor guard in Lac du Flambeau.

Survivors include nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Marion; two sisters, Clara Eschenbach and Selma Bauman; and four brothers, Edward, Martin, Walter and Elmer Zimmerman.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. David Klemm will officiate.

Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, assisted the family with arrangements.
