Rebecca Vivian Pajula

IRONWOOD - Rebecca Vivian Pajula, 90, of 201 W. Norrie St., Ironwood, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, March 23, 2005, in her home.

The former Rebecca Jacobi was born Aug. 14, 1914 in New York City, New York, daughter of the late Jacob and Rachael (Levine) Jacobi, and graduated from high school there in 1932. She then attended nursing school and became a registered nurse, living and working in various New York hospitals for many years.

She married Arvo H. Pajula on April 18, 1952 in Merrill, Wis., and came to Ironwood, residing there until 1964 when they moved to Ishpeming. She returned to Ironwood in 1995 following Arvo's death on Jan. 8, 1993.

Rebecca worked with the handicapped, and, as she was legally blind, was active in the Blind Association in Ishpeming. She was also a past member of the Ishpeming Women's Club.

Surviving are her daughter, Naomi Pajula, at home and her special friend and caregiver, Virginia Carpenter, of Ironwood.

Besides her parents and husband, Rebecca was preceded in death by a daughter Amelia in infancy.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 30, at 3 p.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl Pepin, officiating.

Spring inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, Inc., Ironwood, is in charge of arrangements.
