Leona Ida Kleinschmidt, 84, of Merrill, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

Born in the town of Maine on August 18, 1919, Leona was the daughter of the late William and Helena (Scharbius) Raasch. She married Louis Kleinschmidt on June 29, 1940, in Merrill. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1997.

Leona had worked with her husband on their farm in the town of Scott. She has been a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in the town of Scott. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, polka music and dancing, spending time with her grandson, and attending family gatherings.

Surviving are her daughters Diana (Ellis) Wendt, Merrill; and Julie (Steven) Berg, West Salem; grandson Matthew Berg, West Salem; and sister-in-law Doris Raasch, Merrill. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis, son Steven and brother Leslie Raasch.

Funeral services were Friday, May 28, at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. James Weiland officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park.
