Sun., April 10, 2005 --- Oestreich, Otto H. (17 Dec. 1924 – 8 April 2005) Otto H. Oestreich, age 80, of 1414 Mathew’s St., Merrill, died Friday, April 8, 2005, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill. Otto was born Dec. 17, 1924, the son of Otto Sr. and Emma (Stark) Oestreich. He married Margaret Trantow on Sept. 11, 1948, in Merrill. Otto farmed in the town of Scott and owned and operated a logging and trucking company for 35 years. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and a past member of the Eagles Club, Snow Hill Cemetery Association and an antique car club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in the outdoors, having a vast knowledge of the forest, nature and wildlife. He also enjoyed polka dancing, paying sheepshead, the cottage, traveling and restoring and showing antique vehicles. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors besides his wife, Margaret, include his three sons, Robert (Karen), Donald (Paula), Lylas (Kate); two daughters, Lois Ramias, and Janice Sieger; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Esther (Clifford) Biggs, of Merrill; and four sisters-in-law, Jane Trantow, of Hurley, Leona Paul Oestreich, of Merrill, Grace (Bill) Oestreich, of Marathon, and Ethel (Herbert) Oestreich, Merrill. He was preceded in death by sons, Edward and James; seven brothers, Emil, John, Martin, Paul, Albert, Herbert, and William; and four sisters, Olga (Harry) Buntrock, Erna (Clarence) Schmidt, Bertha (Ervin) Baumann and Selma (Ed) Kotke. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 11, at Christ United Methodist Church. The Rev. Carolyn Saunders will officiate with burial in Snow Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, and Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Alzheimer’s Association the American Heart Association. |
