Martin A. Oestreich

Martin A. Oestreich, 95, 711 E. First St., Merrill, died Friday, May 24, 2002, under Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill. Martin was born April 25, 1907, in the town of Scott, son of the late Otto and Emma (Stark) Oestreich. He married Selma Berndt on May 2, 1931, in Merrill. She survives.

Martin had been a dairy farmer and logger in the town of Scott, and had also been a carpenter, working with the former Borchardt Construction of Merrill. He was a member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ, Merrill, and had been a member, past president and treasurer of the former St. Paul's United Church of Christ, town of Corning. Martin enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, playing cards, wood working, and the company of his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors besides his wife Selma, include one daughter, Delores Procknow, Merrill; two sons, Edgar (Nila) Oestreich and Gerald (Phyllis) Oestreich, all of Merrill; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; tree step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; six step-great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Erna Schmidt and Esther Biggs, both of Merrill, and Bertha Baumann, Tomahawk; one brother, Otto (Margaret) Oestreich, Merrill; and three sisters-in-law, Ethel, Grace and Leona Oestreich, all of Merrill.

Martin is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Melvin Procknow; two sisters and their spouses, Olga (Harry) Buntrock and Selma (Ed) Katke; three brothers and their spouses, Emil ( Esther) Oestreich, John (Dorothea) Oestreich, and Albert (Anna) Oestreich; and three other brothers, William, Herbert, and Paul Oestreich; as well as three brothers-in-law, Clarence Schmidt, Ervin Baumann and Clifford Biggs.

The funeral will be a 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at St. Stephens United Church of Christ, Merrill. The Rev. Earl Eckhart will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, town of Corning. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Taylor and Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and at the church Tuesday after 11 a.m.
