RITES FOR ARTHUR SCHMIDT WILL BE HELD THURSDAY

Arthur R. Schmidt, 807 Jefferson Street, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edwin Zimmerman, 1410 Cotter Ave., yesterday. He had been ailing for five months and seriously ill for five days.

He was born December 31, **1884 in Merrill to John and Emilia (Bucholz) Schmidt and lived in Lincoln County all of his life. He was a retired farmer. He was married to Martha Hass November 9, 1907, in the town of Scott. He was a member of the Golden Age Club, a former assessor and school board member of the town of Corning and former presidents of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, town of Scott.

He is survived by his wife, five daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Lillian) Zimmerman, and Mrs. Clarence (Laura) Hahn, both of Merrill; Mrs. Clarence (Elsie) Bade, and Mrs. Roland (Selma) Adams, both of the town of Scott, and Mrs. Kurt (Dorathea) Kleinschmidt, Town of Corning; five sons, Elmer, Norman, and Reuben, and Alfred, all of the town of Corning and Arthur, Town of Texas; two brothers, Edwin, Town of Corning, and Herbert, Merrill; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Ella) Wendt, town of Corning; 43 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

A son, Fritz, in World War II, a granddaughter, a grandson, and a brother, Ewald and a sister, Mrs. Charles (Selma) Krause, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Friends of the family may call to pay their respects at the Schram Funeral home from 1 p.m. Wednesday until 11 a.m. Thursday at which time he will be taken to the church to lie in state from noon until the hour of services.

**Note – Arthur’s birth year on his tombstone shows birth year as 1883, along with the SSDI, and the Wis. Birth Records. Middle name was taken from the family data base.
