Elmaeta Lewerenz, 1st White Girl Born in City, Succumbs

Miss Elmaeta Lewerenz, 70, first white girl born in Tomahawk, died Sunday evening at Fort Atkinson Memorial hospital, Fort Atkinson, Wis.

She was a resident of Whitewater, Wis.

Miss Lewerenz was born Aug. 23, 1887 to William and Elizabeth Lewerenz. She moved to Whitewater about 1919 and also resided for a time in Washington, D. C. A secretary, she formerly was employed in the president’s office at Whitewater State college.

She was a member of the Congregational church, Whitewater. She also held membership in the State Doll Collector’s club.

Survivors are a nephew, Harold Lewerenz, Tomahawk, and two nieces, Mrs. A. E. (Vida) Schlising, Tomahawk, and Mrs. Oluf (Clarice) Michelson, Bethesda, Md. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Roy.

Funeral services were Wednesday afternoon, June 25, in the William Nick funeral home. The Rev. L. E. Stonecipher, pastor of the Congregational church, officiated. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.

Rites Said for Miss Lewerenz

Funeral services for Miss Elmaeta Lewerenz, 70, who died June 22 in a Fort Atkinson hospital, were last Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Congregational church. The Rev. L. E. Stonecipher, pastor, officiated.

Interment was in Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers were Dr. W. I. Macfarlane, Ed M. MacDonald, Louis Iverson, Herman Selmer, Oscar Kriigel and Joseph Belliveau.

Attending from out of the city were Mrs. Oluf Michelson and daughters, Betty and Margaret, Bethesda, Md.; Miss Helen Lewerenz, Cornell, Wis.; and Mrs. Dora Budsberg, Merrill.
